North of the famous Bouddhanath stupa lies the Kapan Monastery. Home to over 360 monks, this monastery is religiously significant in the Buddhist community. It was once home to the astrologer of the King of Nepal. This Tibetan-styled monastery was built under the guidance of Lama Zopa Rinpoche. One of the least visited monasteries in Kathmandu, the Pullahari Monastery is a must-visit place if you’re exploring hidden gems around the city. Monks intensively engage in prayers, scriptures, rituals, and dedications for the temporary benefit of beings and ultimate realization. The Monastery was opened in March 1992.

This monastery lies in Jagdol, Kapan. Known for its stunning architecture and impressive sculptures, this monastery is truly underrated. Like the Kapan Monastery, it offers teaching courses and meditation to outsiders seeking peace and tranquility.

Located in Shivapuri National Park, this ancient treasure is simply breathtaking. This hidden jewel, far from the busy city’s reach, invites visitors to go on a journey that will awe them. You can reach the stupa by road or on foot from Budhanilkantha temple. Nestled on the Budhanilkantha hill, this Buddhist monument is a must-visit near Budhanilkantha.

The stupa’s ambiance is peaceful and serene, soothing the mind. Marbled stairs and a floor lead up to the Jamchen Vijaya Stupa, which is open to visitors from 8 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM. The stupa is open to everyone and requires no special permits or entry fees. This stupa does not provide teachings or meditation courses, unlike the previous two monasteries. Regardless, this is a must-visit place.

Lastly, this small town is located 20 km away from Kathmandu. Pharping lies in the southern hills of Kathmandu. For Hindus, it is also a very sacred place and is well known for its Dakshin Kali temple, which lies in the valley near Pharping. This place is less visited and is yet to be fully explored.
