Detailed Itinerary Of The Arun Valley Trek

Day 1: Fly to Tumlingtar: From Kathmandu, take the scenic flight to Tumlingtar, and you can start your trek to Kartike. The first day’s trek includes a four-hour walk to Kartike. Cross a suspension bridge and enjoy the views of the Arun River.

Day 2: Kartike to Gothe Bazaar: On the second day, you should walk from Kartike to Gothe Bazaar. This 5-6 hour day hike is a bit more challenging than the previous one. You can walk through scenic trails surrounded by dense forests. Along the way, you will cross several small settlements where you can interact with the locals.

Day 3: Trek From Gothe Bazaar to Salpa Phedi: On this day, you shall ascend uphill towards Salpa Phedi. Ascend through forests and villages to reach Salpa Phedi. As you ascend, the landscape changes, and you will also get occasional mountain views.

Day 4: Salpa Phedi to Guranse: This is a challenging part of the trek as you ascend steep terrain. You can reach Guranse in about 5-6 hours. There are a few openings along the way where you can take photographs of the distant peaks.

Mid-Point For Your Trek

Day 5: Guranse to Sanam via Salpa La Pass: On the fifth day, you will reach the trek’s maximum elevation. From Guranse, you will ascend towards the Salpa La Pass at 3360 meters. From the pass, you will get majestic views of the surrounding peaks. You must descend from the pass to reach Sanam.

Day 6: Sanam to Bung: On the sixth day, you will encounter several monasteries and ancient temples. Before reaching Bung, you must descend at a steady pace from Sanam. You can also explore one of the several monasteries during the trail downhill.

Day 7: Bung to Gaikharka: Descend from Bung to Gaikharka on the seventh day. You will walk through a quieter trail along the Arun River. Stay overnight at Gaikharka at one of the community homestays.

Day 8: Gaikharka To Tumlingtar: You can descend gradually through a well-marked trail. As the Arun River expands, you can relax beside the river. After a 5-6 hour walk, you will reach Tumlingtar.

Day 9: Fly back to Kathmandu: On the last day of the trek, take a flight back to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar.
