Jamacho Gumba, also known as Jamacho Monastery, is a Buddhist monastery located in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is situated within the Nagarjun Forest Reserve, which is part of the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The monastery is a popular destination for both local and international visitors due to its serene environment, spiritual significance, and panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley.

Preparing for the Trip

The ideal times to visit Jamacho Gumba are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and clear. Before setting out, ensure you have the necessary permits, as a trekking permit is required to enter the Nagarjun Forest Reserve for foreign visitors.

Pack appropriately for the hike. Essentials include comfortable trekking shoes, lightweight clothing, a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, and some snacks. Don’t forget a camera to capture the stunning scenery along the way.

Starting the Journey

Head to the Nagarjun Forest Reserve, which is roughly 6 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu’s downtown, to find the trailhead. You may get to the reserve’s entrance by local bus or cab.
