About this activity

Chandragiri Hill Hike is one of the rarely-done hikes near Kathmandu. It is also much more famous and can be visited via cable. At an altitude of 2,475 meters above sea level, the Hike gives a scenic view of the Kathmandu valley rim.

From the top of the hill, we can enjoy compelling views of the entire Kathmandu Valley and mountain ranges, including Manaslu, Langtang, and Ganesh Himal. Green forests surround the place on either side. The hike is not too strenuous and has steady ascents throughout the trail. The panoramic views of this place are simply magical.

This underrated hiking destination offers beautiful views of the distant mountains. There are multiple temples along the way, which makes this hike a must-visit if you’re near Kathmandu.

Itinerary

We meet at Baneshwor and head towards Thankot, the hike's starting point. The drive takes approximately 40-45 minutes.

Our trail ascends through a forested area filled with rhododendrons and other year-round flowers.

This open shrine is dedicated to Goddess Champa Devi. We stop here briefly to rehydrate and get our pace back.

We arrive at the summit of Chandragiri at Noon. We visit the Bhaleshwor Temple and soak in the beautiful scenery around it.

We enjoy a packed lunch at the top of Chandragiri Hills and explore its surroundings.

The hike back to Thankot is relatively easier and takes 2-3 hours. On our way back, we can enjoy the trail more, we’ll have more time, and the descent will be reasonably easy.

We will reach Thankot after walking down the trail for 2-3 hours.

We will head back to Kathmandu from Thankot, which should take around 45 minutes.
